2021 Box Lacrosse


Registration information for 2021 

 

Registration is now open. 
Upon registration each registrant will be asked to pay a non-refundable deposit.
That deposit is:
 
6U and 8U: $20
10U, 12U, 14U and 16U: $50
 
This deposit will let us know how many players to program for and will also guarantee your player a spot in a program this season. With health and safety restrictions likely to make team sizes less flexible than in the past in order to comply with cohort requirements if players are not registered early with this deposit we may not be able to offer spots in programs to players at a later date.
 
Why is this deposit non-refundable? The short answer is that carrying on minor lacrosse does have ongoing expenses that need to be paid regardless of what participation looks like. Things like websites, insurance, storage lockers, administrative staff (we haven't paid any staff directly in Okotoks, but we benefit from and share the costs of CDLA and ALA staff) and administrative fees all continue to have to be paid. Last season we were able to refund 100% of all of our early registrants' money and paid funds to ALA and CDLA for their continued operations out of funds that we had prudently saved from prior operations. Our fees for our summer programming only covered a portion of our expenses and we did have expenses for evaluation floor times that took place prior to March 13. This is not sustainable over the long term, certainly not if we face another season of costs for evaluations or coaching certification without registration income. The ORLA, ALA and CDLA will need funds to ensure the long term viability of minor lacrosse in Okotoks and Alberta.
 

As the season unfolds we anticipate levying additional fees at 3 other points throughout the season. When and how much those fees will be will depend on how much lacrosse activity takes place. We believe this is the fairest means of recovering the costs for the actual lacrosse players get to enjoy while minimizing the chances of having families waiting on significant refunds.

The maximum amount of those fees (including the deposit and any fee paid to the ALA) will be as follows:

In essence, in the event that we are able to carry out our season in accordance with the plan set out below, this is the maximum total fees. In the event that programming is curtailed or cancelled, the fees will be reduced and charged in order to recover the costs of the programming that is delivered. 

So, hypothetically, a 12U player could be looking at paying a $50 non-refundable deposit on registration and then $111.67 on each of April 15, May 15 and June 15 if the season unfolded in a perfect scenario. Other groups deposits and fees would look proportional to this.

EARLY SEASON PROGRAM

ORLA is offering the chance for every player who registers with a non-refundable deposit to participate in these sessions, but you will be asked to opt-in to them as part of your registration and if you wish your player to participate you must opt-in. If you opt-in, you will be placed into a group of up to 9 players of similar age and experience and more details emailed to you later as to which times your player should attend. The key health and safety requirements that participants will have to abide by to participate are as follows:
 
-masks must be worn by participants as they enter and leave the facility. The players will be permitted to remove their masks during activity. Coaches will wear masks throughout the session.
-players are to maintain 3 m of space between them during the activity. As a result, there will be no contact drills. These sessions will be for building up fitness and working on fundamental skills. 
-coaches may enter the 3m "bubble" to assist players and demonstrate technique, but these should be brief interactions
-There will be no change rooms available except for emergencies or washroom use.
-Participants will enter through entrances specific to each floor. They will not use the main entrance. 
-Spectators are not permitted 
-You will need to download and use the RAMP Team App to check your player in and perform Covid screening information before each session. The app can be downloaded for iOS here and for Android here
 
How many sessions players will get to participate in will depend on how many players take up this opportunity. Sessions will run between 6 and 8 pm at the Crescent Point Fieldhouse on the dates listed below (although in the event our available slots are oversubscribed we may add more dates or times depending on availability at the Fieldhouse):

HOKS A TEAMS
 
We are hoping to work with High River, Strathmore and the NE Calgary Knights lacrosse association to offer the HOKS A Team program this season. For 12U this will likely be a combination of Okotoks and High River players. For 14U and 15U all four clubs will try to create a combined team. We do not know if this will be feasible under the health and safety regulations going forward, but if you want your player to be considered for this program there is a checkbox in the registration form and you must opt to be considered. More details will be sent to you when available.
